What season of life
are you in?
The mental load changes. The expectations don’t always disappear.

Babies + toddlers
Work, returning to work + the second shift
Are you a stressed mum juggling work with young babies or toddlers, worrying about re-entering the workforce and how you will juggle it all? Or navigating long days at work that don’t really end once you get home?
In fact, you’re just clocking in to your next full-time job.
The school years
Sport, playdates, birthday parties + the mental load
Or maybe you’re navigating primary school-aged children alongside work, extracurricular commitments like sports, playdates and birthday parties, all while taking on the mental load of the house.
The teenage years
When the problems get more complex
Then they become teenagers, bringing a whole new set of challenges. Everyone told you it would get easier. Instead, the problems just get more complex.
You’re most likely dealing with perimenopause as well. That feeling of not being in control of your body, while everyone still wants a piece of you, can be enough to make you want to run screaming from it all.
Some days, you might just want to run away and start over. (We’ve all had those days.)
Young adults + ageing parents
Being needed in both directions
And then there’s the stage after that: parenting young adults in a world full of uncertainty, while trying not to feel like you’re constantly failing. You may also have ageing parents who need you, so at times you feel like a parent to them as well.
Whatever the season
Whatever the season, being needed by everyone can sometimes feel incredibly lonely.
Whether you have a partner or not, whether they’re supportive or not, navigating the different stages of life as a woman can sometimes feel isolating.
Everyone has an opinion
There are so many conflicting messages from every direction telling you what you should and shouldn’t do.
How to parent. How to navigate menopause. How to bring back the spark in your relationship. How you should and shouldn’t live as a woman.
All the well-intentioned people on social media make it look like they have it all together, which sends the message that there must be something wrong with you if you don’t have your dream life.
Is it any wonder we burn ourselves out and become consumed with self-doubt?
I think many of us have lost the ability to listen to our intuition and trust our judgement. Yet we know ourselves better than anyone else ever can.
So what if we make mistakes or don’t have the ‘perfect’ life?
What I’ve learnt at 53
What I’ve learnt as a woman of 53 is that there is no such thing as perfection.
Making mistakes along the way is part of the journey.
Life taking turns you didn’t expect can be the best thing to happen to you, giving you experiences you never expected or thought possible.
Living a life under the expectations of society, rather than what feels authentic and right for you, will never make you feel fulfilled.
So no matter what season you are in, embrace the chaos, the uncertainty and all the twists and turns life takes.
Live the life that belongs to you, not society.
Make yourself happy so you can be the best version of yourself for those around you.
Live the life
that belongs to you.
